Mohanjeet Brar, the Managing Director, is a 4th generation Kenyan who is a keen naturalist and conservationist. Having lived and grown up in the rich forests of the Kenyan highlands, he has a close-tie to wildlife and the local people. He has a Doctorate degree in Plant Science from the US and is a KPSGA (Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association) certified safari guide.  

Mohanjeet has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ecotourism Kenya, Board Member of the Kenya Tourism Board, Board Member of Kenya Tourism Federation, Board Member of the East African Wildlife Society, Board Member of Atta, Founding Trustee of the Kijabe Forest Trust, Vice Chair of the KEPSA Environment Sector Board and is currently a Board Member of the Maasai Mara Conservancies Association and Fellow of Atta (African Travel & Tourism Association).

Gamewatchers Safaris was established in 1989 by our Founder, Jake Grieves-Cook, who has been involved in Kenya’s tourism industry for over 40 years, starting in the Masai Mara in the early 1970s.  

Jake has served in recent years as Chairman of the Ecotourism Society of Kenya (ESOK), Chairman of the Kenya Tourism Federation (KTF), a board member of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), a trustee of the EU/Kenya Government Tourism Trust Fund (TTF), as Vice-Chairman of the East African Wildlife Society and Chairman of the Kenya Tourist Board (KTB).

Twenty years ago he was one of the pioneers of a new private sector conservancy concept, creating protected wildlife habitat by leasing plots of land from communities adjacent to the parks to form conservancies and paying for the costs of leases and providing jobs for community members from tourism income to our small eco-camps. He was closely involved in setting up our wildlife conservation projects with Maasai communities at Amboseli and the Mara and continues to take a personal interest in helping to support the success of the conservancies going forward.
